The chorti Indians of Guatemala, people with millennium values and traditions, are proud to present to you their initiative of direct trade from producer to consumer, avoiding like this the excessive accumulation of middlemen and the rigid conditions imposed by the capitalist market and the continuous price fluctuation of the Stock Market.

Their work in the co-operative, based on the principles of solidarity and mutual assistance, plantations at altitude cultivated on shady land and the variety of the microclimate and the fertile subsoils, are combining to produce a speciality coffee that gives the benefit to more than 1000 families and that is satisfying the most exacting palate.

Since the year 2006 and thanks to the valuable collaboration of the neighbouring savings and credits San José Obrero co-operative « COOSAJO R.L », a commercial facility has been set up in Belgium with the aim of giving to the product an added value while meeting the requirements of the western  customers and the production standards concerning eating hygiene.

With the CHORTI COFFEE, the producer receives a net income superior to the one received via the classical fair trade, which explains that this honest and viable initiative offers to the associates a remunerative market stable in the long-term which represents one of the rare opportunity to gain economic independence that will allow the producing families to make their cultivations profitable but also to re-energize their local economy and to invest in their own development.

The average area of plantations per associate is of 1.4 hectare. For a production of 1800 kilos of green coffee, that is to say 1.4 tons of roasted coffee.
